Global Market for Orphan Drugs to Grow to $127B by 2018

BOSTON--The global orphan drug market – pharmaceuticals aimed at rare diseases and disorders - is set to reach $127 billion by 2018, according to a new 2013 Orphan Drug Report from Evaluate released today at BIO 2013. The life science sector analysis firm reports that the orphan drug market is projected to account for nearly 16 percent of total prescription drug sales, and that sales will experience a compound annual growth rate of 7.4 percent through 2018.

BOSTON--The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC), a quasi-public agency of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, launched a new International Collaborative Industry Program (ICIP). The program is intended to help Massachusetts-based life sciences companies to advance their R&D efforts for new products and processes intended for commercialization.

Myelin Repair Foundation Expands Patent Portfolio

BOSTON--The Myelin Repair Foundation (MRF) announced Monday that it has added a new patent to its portfolio. The new patent recognizes novel, cell-based drug screens used in assessing and examining compounds that demonstrate myelin repair. The MRF says that this will support its ongoing effort to work with academic researcher support drug development for MS and other demyelinating diseases.
